2000 Catana 472

Charleston, South Carolina

We've all had a lot of time lately to think about where we want to live, work and play. . .  If the sea is your choice, this Catana 472 should be the pleasure craft at the top of your list.  And pleasure craft she is.  Her Sellers have used her as a waterborne home, sound studio, office and playground.  They have created a very comfortable upscale live/work/play environment within a performance cruising catamaran renown for its world cruising and seakeeping abilities.

When they started cruising, the Sellers had a very clean owner's version 472.  A 472 - not a 471 - with the carbon rig, boom and bowsprit, self-tacking jib, beautiful cherry veneer interior, Corian counters, Alcantara headliners, premium leather upholstery, extended galley, and extended master suite that the 472 factory upgrade brings to the table.  Engines, saildrives, and generator were new in 2014 and now have less than 900 hours.  Kevlar standing rigging was renewed in 2015. Sails are in good condition.  Instrumentation, electronics, electrical systems, and myriad comfort, entertainment, communication, and safety items had been recently renewed.

To incorporate the comforts of home, a premium lambswool-topped true king-sized organic mattress was added to the master stateroom in the private owner's hull.  All new air conditioning was installed that blows ice cold (3 units).  A new washing machine, fed by a watermaker with new pumps, membranes, and UV water filters, went in to compliment the tumble dryer.  Oh, the watermaker also produces plenty of product for the full-body rainwater shower in the master bath.

When it was time to work, the flexible aft guest stateroom was converted to a sound studio and office.  You can convert it back or convert it to the office of your dreams.  This flexispace office is in addition to the existing large desk at the navigation station that serves as an office up in the saloon and the private desk in the owner's hull.  All three are excellent workspaces for cruisers with careers.  The large cockpit table is a nice spot too!

For culinary enjoyment and entertaining, the galley got a new induction cooktop and electric oven/breadmaker as well as a new microwave and Frigoboat and Isotherm refrigeration upgrades.  960 watt of solar were added to the hard bimini to enable extended stays on the hook. There is plenty of entertaining space on a 472.  You will really enjoy the inside-to-out living as the saloon door and window slide away to co-join the saloon with the large cockpit creating expansive indoor/outdoor space beneath the hard bimini (complete with sunshades/enclosure).

When it is time to play, there is a dive compressor, tanks and diving gear, as well as a new 25 hp Yamaha electric-start outboard powering the 2013 Yamaha dinghy (with UV chaps).  If you want catch some rays or need to catch up on some reading the built-in cockpit sun loungers are the place to be.  And sailing a Catana is a joy in itself.  She is a true exploration vehicle and a right smart sailing cat.

This 472 is very near the top of her maintenance curve and ready for YOU to make her your home and office on the sea.  There is nothing quite like living, working, and playing aboard a beautiful catamaran.  Are you ready to seize this opportunity and make her yours?  Contact Matthew today.

Specifications and Equipment

About the 472

This is a rare Catana 472 Owner's version, one of the best blue water sailing catamarans in the world.  She has the larger aft suites with king size master cabin, carbon rig, self tacking jib, cherry wood veneers, extended galley, and carbon sprit unique to the 472.  This is a sailor's cat with a very comfortable interior - making it a prime choice for a cruising couple or family.

Interior finishes are superb with varnished cherry-wood veneers throughout and Corian countertops in the galley and bathrooms. The large galley is up to port with and extended forward in an L-shape. The galley interfaces extremely well with the cockpit with the intervening window sliding completely away for true inside-out living. The salon settee is to starboard with the navigation station rotated aft starboard to take advantage of the display area created by the expanded owner's cabin down in the hull. The nav station houses an extensive array of B&G navigation electronics, Windows PC, iPad Pro tablet mounting brackets, autopilot, RADAR and plotter and VHF.

The entire starboard hull is devoted to the owner's comforts. The 472 has an angled bulkhead in each aft cabin making them considerably larger than the cabins in the 471s. This makes for very spacious, comfortable and private accommodation.

On deck, the 472 is all about performance sailing: carbon rig, the characteristic 472 carbon compression beam/bowsprit, daggerboards, a self-tacking solent track, 3 electric winches to run the sails efficiently. The sail wardrobe inludes a main, solent and gennaker on furlers. She has a broad and open cockpit well protected by a solid bimini where all sail raising, reefing, and trimming activities occur in the safety. Her helms offer unparalleled visibility when sailing or docking.
